In response to the latest Office for National Statistics crime figures, West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe OBE, said:
“These latest crime figures compare against a period of the COVID pandemic and whilst we expect them to be higher as a result, it is important that we learn from the trends.
“Instances of stalking and harassment for instance remain on the increase and higher than the national rate, which is something I am keeping a close eye upon.
“Likewise, the rise in violent crime is concern for us all, which is again showing higher rates than those nationally, across a number of related categories.
“The significant local and national rise in ‘theft from person’ is also something we must understand and quickly get on top of.
“There must be no room for complacency, and I will continue to review all the statistics with the Chief Constable to ensure the Force continues on the right path in its response.”
